Tai Ping Hou Kui, often hailed as the "King of Tea," is a prestigious green tea from the foothills of Huangshan (Yellow Mountain) in Anhui Province, China. Renowned for its unique long (8-10 cm) and flat-leaf appearance, captivating orchid aroma, and smooth, sweet liquor, this tea offers a truly exceptional experience.

Flavor Profile: This exquisite tea presents a remarkably smooth and sweet flavor profile. The defining characteristic is a delicate orchid fragrance, complemented by subtle hints of sweetness and a refreshing vegetal quality. The finish is clean and lingering, leaving a pleasant sweetness on the palate.

Appearance (Dry Leaf): The most striking feature of Tai Ping Hou Kui is the appearance of its dry leaves. Large, flat, and slightly contorted, they display a vibrant green hue, often with reddish veins underneath. These leaves can grow up long and are plucked from the Shi Da Cha, a large-leaf varietal unique to Anhui Province. The "two knives and one pole" description—two straight leaves clasping the large bud with white hairs—is a hallmark of high-quality Tai Ping Hou Kui.

Brewing Instructions: Use 1 teaspoon (approximately 2-3 grams) of tea leaves per 8 ounces (237 ml) of water. Heat water to 75-80°C (167-176°F) and steep for 1-2 minutes for the first infusion. Subsequent infusions can be slightly longer.

Story/Origin: Tai Ping Hou Kui has a rich history dating back to the Ming Dynasty. It was even harvested for emperors during the Qing Dynasty. Commercial production began in the early 20th century around the village of Hou Keng (Monkey Pit). Its prestigious status was solidified when it won the "King of Tea" award at the China Tea Exhibition in 2004.
