Having patiently slumbered for over a decade, its inherent flavors have undergone a remarkable transformation, mellowing and deepening with time. A recent gentle re-roasting has awakened its captivating aroma and ensured its continued longevity.

This aged oolong presents a smooth, gentle character, a departure from the typical boldness of younger Rou Gui. Delightful earthy notes intertwine with an enduring sweet aftertaste—a gan sweetness that lingers long after the final sip, leaving a pleasant warmth and a sense of deep satisfaction.

Re-Roasting Note: 2024 Jan

  • Gradual Heating: Incrementally increasing temperature to induce different chemical changes in the tea.
  • 80°C 30 min., 100°C 30min., 120°C 30min., 130 °C 30 min.
  • Purpose is to reduce moister, increase vibrancy of the liquid, reduce the grassy note, adding a touch baking charcoal aroma.

Unlike some aged teas that can become thin or lose their vibrancy, this 2008 Rou Gui retains remarkable depth. While other aged oolongs might mellow significantly, this tea offers a smooth entry followed by a surprising pungency with extended steeping.
